Process Efficiency improved by rolling out a robust Product Development Process using Windchill including data migration from Pro/Intralink 3.4 for a Pumping Systems Company

Business Challenge

  • Customer was using Intralink 3.4 and Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 for its Product Development Process
  • Customer had engineering data authored in AutoCAD & SolidWorks apart from Pro/Engineer which makes it impossible to manage in Intralink 3.4 resulting in disconnected systems and lack of single source of truth
  • Customer was using SQL Database which was not widely supported by Windchill PLM (back in 2008)

The Solution

  • Implemented Windchill PDMLink with Business Configurations to address customer’s process gaps
  • Migrated data & users from Pro/Intralink 3.4 to Windchill using Pro/I Migrator
  • Used custom tools to validate data especially around Family Tables and fixed issues related to Data Integrity to ensure the migration was 100% accurate
  • Trained all the users on Windchill PDMLink to manage their Engineering Documents and Processes for a smooth adoption

Benefits

  • Ability to manage all types of CAD Documents, helps the customer to maintain a single repository and make the development process efficient.
  • Ability to manage critical information such as Product Changes in Windchill PLM helped the customer reduce product rework and scrap, thereby lowering product cost.
  • Accomplished the migration cut-over with least downtime and high accuracy
