Improved Product Variant & Process Planning Management using Windchill PLM for an Environmental Waste Management Company

Business Challenge

  • Customer has major challenges to manage Product Variants as they had to manually determine if the product configurations requested by the customer has been previously built or if it requires engineering.
  • The current data transfer of product information from PLM system to JDEdwards was highly error prone
  • Manufacturing not so familiar with PLM systems and hence was unable to generate process plans required for manufacturing
  • A seamless thread from design to manufacturing was non-existent leading to loss of time and efficiency

The Solution

  • Sconce proposed an End-to-End PLM Driven Business Process Automation right from Product Variant Management to Manufacturing Process Management
  • Conduct Blueprinting Exercise to understand ‘as is’ and defined the To-Be state that can augment the customer’s business process and plug the gaps.
  • Seamless Bi-Directional Integration between Windchill MPMLink to JDEdwards to exchange Production Information (Parts, BOMs, Routings and Change Notices) was developed
  • Deployed an ECO driven release cycle for variant mBOM and variant process plan generated from the overloaded super BOM
  • Deployed an automated method to check for product variants previously built to drive custom vs off-the-shelf orders

Business Benefits

  • Manufacturing Engineers could complete 4 Process Plans in a day compared to 1 after the implementing Windchill MPMLink
  • Sconce’s custom solution to check for duplicate variants once a product is configured saved designers’ 40% time as compared to manual validation.
